The Parent's Role : Leading by Example

It goes without saying that your learner is less likely to take your advice seriously, if he or she sees that you do not follow your own advice when driving. If you consistently break speed limits, how can you convince your son or daughter that they should respect them?
Don't pass on any bad driving habits you might have.
Your child saying that they would like to learn to drive is a very good time for you to think about your own driving. It's an ideal reason to take some refresher training (See Refresh Your Driving).
At the very least, read the latest edition of the Highway Code.
If you do take some refresher training with a professional driving instructor, you may also be able to use the same instructor to teach your child. This could make it easier to discuss your learner’s development.
